We are seeking a versatile Geotechnical Engineer with 3 years of experience to join our civil and infrastructure engineering consultancy in the NY/NJ tri-state area. This role spans the full project lifecycle, including soil mechanics data interpretation, foundation and Support of Excavation (SOE) design, ground improvement specifications, and construction-phase engineering oversight.
- Analyze laboratory testing data to define engineering soil parameters, assess liquefaction, and establish seismic site classifications.
- Perform foundation and retention design calculations for shallow/deep foundations and Support of Excavation (SOE) systems.
- Develop ground improvement solutions for problematic soil conditions.
- Provide construction-phase geotechnical engineering oversight and troubleshoot unforeseen field conditions.
- Author Geotechnical Engineering Reports (GER) and Baseline Reports (GBR) compliant with local building codes.
- Analyze triaxial shear, direct shear, consolidation, and Atterberg limits testing data.
- Perform bearing capacity, settlement, and lateral pile load calculations.
- Design shallow and deep foundations (drilled shafts, driven piles, micro-piles) and SOE systems using PLAXIS and Rocscience.
- Develop engineering solutions for problematic soils utilizing jet grouting, deep dynamic compaction, rigid inclusions, and aggregate piers.
- Evaluate subgrade proof-rolling, review pile load/integrity testing, and assess tieback tests during construction.
- Review vibration monitoring data and resolve active jobsite subsurface issues.
- Author technical GER and GBR reports in compliance with NYC Building Code Chapter 18 and IBC.
Required Experience
3 years of experience in geotechnical consulting, foundation design, and construction-phase oversight for mid-level engineering projects.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering
